September 24, 2020

Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta leads the Judiciary in attending the virtual Senate Budget Hearing presided over by Senator Sonny Angara, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance, held on Thursday afternoon, September 24, 2020. This is the second time during his tenure as Chief Justice that he has attended a budget committee hearing, which shows that Chief Justice Peralta will leave no stones unturned in ensuring that the Judiciary gets adequate funds for its reform programs. Chief Justice Peralta, who has been attending the senate budget hearing even when he was still an Associate Justice, considers the budget as a very important matter in order to ensure that the Judiciary can continue servicing the needs of people and that the wheels of justice continue grinding especially during this time of pandemic. “I am very pleased to know that the Senate is very supportive of the Judiciary as well as the reforms and initiatives that have been and will be undertaken to further improve the administration of justice,” the Chief Justice said. Chief Justice Peralta and other key officials from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, and the Court of Tax Appeals, strictly observing proper social distancing, stayed inside the Supreme Court Session Hall as they communicated with the members of the Senate Committee to discuss the Proposed 2021 Budget of the Judiciary.
