Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin lauds the Supreme Court Committee on Gender Responsiveness in the Judiciary (CGRJ) for ensuring that the Supreme Court complies with the requirement under the Magna Carta of Women(RA 9710) that all government officials and employees undergo gender sensitivity training. In his opening remarks during a CGRJ-sponsored lecture held at the SC En Banc Session Hall on March 21, 2019, Chief Justice Bersamin says: “A clarification on the sex and gender terminologies will ensure that our court decisions shall be written in a manner that will be sensitive to the issues and concerns of everyone concerned, especially those in the LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender] community.” The lecture, he adds, equips courts with more familiarity in handling gender-related offenses and the understanding of the concepts of SOGIE [sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression] and LGBTQ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals].
