July 31, 2019

Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the 2019 Legal Education Summit (LES), gives the welcome remarks on the first day of the two-day Summit on July 31, 2019 at the Manila Hotel. With the theme Shifting Paradigm: Remodelling Legal Education in the Philippines, the LES is a culmination of a seven intensive regional consultative meetings conducted nationwide to receive inputs from legal education stakeholders in Central Luzon, Northern Luzon, the Visayas, Southern Mindanao, Northern Mindanao, Bicol Region, and the Metro Manila and Calabarzon, which according to Justice Gesmundo fulfilled one of Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin’s four-point agenda, i.e., assessing and improving the quality of our country’s legal education. Justice Gesmundo says that the guiding principle of the Summit is “to remodel and  not to demolish or destroy existing foundations and structures but to build and improve on them.” (Photo by Tiffany Ines C.
