December 6, 2019

In a rare gathering of the country’s heads of its three branches of power, Letran Knights Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta  for the Judiciary, Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III  for the Legislative, and Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea  for the Executive, are honored by their alma mater, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, with the Manuel L. Quezon Award at the Manila Yacht Club on Thanksgiving Night on November 28, 2019.

The three illustrious alumni are joined by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 95 Men’s Basketball Champions, the Letran Knights, led by this year’s heralded Most Valuable Player, Frank Yu (not in photo). Chief Justice Peralta is a graduate of B.S. Economics; Senate President Sotto, grade school, high school, and A.B. English; and Executive Secretary Medialdea, B.S. Economics.

Letran College Rector & President, Fr. Clarence Victor Marquez, OP (left), in referencing the recent NCAA feat, acknowledged the honorees as “champions in the three branches of government.” He called the event “a true celebration of the arriba spirit” and an early gift to the Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s quadricentennial anniversary next year.

Fr. Boyd Sulpico, OP- Alumni Chaplain (right) referred to the honorees as the “triune knights” representing the three ideals of the institution – Deus, Patria, Letran (love of God, of country, and of Letran).  He noted that the celebration was providential as it coincides with the holiday of Thanksgiving, and is a fitting occasion to rally the community to support our leaders.

The award is named after Letranite Manuel Luis Quezon, the recognized second President of the Republic of the Philippines. (Courtesy of the SC Public Information Office)
