The University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law Alumni Foundation,
Inc. (USTLAFI) honors Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta, its 7th graduate to
become Chief Justice, with a testimonial dinner entitled, “Hail To The Chief”
held at the Ballroom of the Diamond Hotel on November 30, 2019.
Chief Justice Peralta, who was also an esteemed member of the faculty from his early days as a Prosecutor for the City of Manila up to his appointment to the Supreme Court, acknowledged the recognition by himself paying tribute to those who had gone before him, namely: Cayetano L. Arellano, Victorino M. Mapa, Manuel G. Araullo, Ramon Q. Avanceña, Roberto R. Concepcion, and Andres R. Narvasa.
The Chief Justice reminded his fellow Thomasian lawyers to continuously heed “the clarion call for promoting excellence and moral formation in the legal profession.” He also gave an update on the progress of his 10-Point Program, which includes the revisions to the Rules of Court set to take effect next year, the creation of a Help Desk, the automation of court processes, to name a few.
Dean Nilo Divina led the guests, including another honoree, Supreme Court Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, in citing the Chief Justice for consistently upholding the Thomasian values of commitment, competence, and compassion amid cheers from the capacity crowd – its largest, as noted by USTLAFI Chairperson, retired Associate Justice Angelina Sandoval-Gutierrez.
The occasion also paid tribute to its Emerald alumnus, represented by Atty. Baby Buenafe and retired Justice of the Court of Appeals Monina A. Zenarosa on their 60th graduation anniversary. (Courtesy of the Supreme Court Public Information Office)
