The inmates, who were detained at the Manila City Jail for four counts of estafa and illegal recruitment, are among the 86 inmates at the Manila City Jail alone released under Judgment Day, a jail decongestion activity spearheaded by the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA). On Judgment Day 2013, simultaneous hearings were done in four other jail facilities: Quezon City, Angeles City, Cebu City, Davao City. Data from the OCA showed as of June 20, 2013, Judgment Day 2013 in Manila resulted in the hearing of 148 cases, dismissal of 86 cases, and release of 86 detainees. In Angeles City, Pampanga, 68 cases were heard, 55 cases were decided, and 43 detainees were released during the activity. Judgment Day 2013 in Cebu City led to the release of 12 inmates, the OCA reported. In Davao City, the activity paved the way for the release of 21 inmates, and the promulgation of 33 cases. In Quezon City, 23 out of 58 cases heard were decided, while 21 inmates were released. Judgment Day, similar to the SC's Enhanced Justice on Wheels (EJOW) Program, brings court processes, literally, to the litigants but without the mobile court.
