Posted May 29, 2011; By Katrina M. Martinez

WHAT           : Formal Launching of the Mahal Mo Ba Ako, a Photo Exhibit of
the Chief Justice Committee to Address Case Congestion and Delays in the Lower Courts
WHEN           :           May 30, 2011, Monday @ 8:00 A.M.
WHERE         :           Supreme Court Lobby

As part of the Supreme Court’s effort to generate interest in the adoption of a new system for hearing and deciding cases to address the problems of clogged dockets and protracted trials, the Supreme Court of the Philippines, through the Chief Justice Committee to Address Case Congestion and Delay in the Lower Courts, will launch Mahal Mo Ba Ako: A Photo Exhibit on Monday, May 30, at the Supreme Court Lobby.

Chief Justice Renato C. Corona will lead the ribbon-cutting ceremonies while Associate Justice Roberto A. Abad, a member of the Committee and the proponent of the exhibit, will deliver a short message.

The photo exhibit and caravan will feature images depicting the realities faced by litigants nationwide such as delays in trials, inadequate facilities and equipment in courthouses, and clogged dockets as well as the various Supreme Court projects through which these problems are addressed.

These issues can be traced to the Judiciary’s outdated adversarial system of litigation, a system which local courts have inherited from the Americans a hundred years ago. Thus, the Supreme Court is set to establish a new model for hearing and adjudicating claims that combines the best features of both the adversarial and the inquisitorial systems of litigation. Through this photo exhibit, the Court hopes to promote the advantages of adopting a new system of trying cases which will promote authentic, speedy justice in Philippine courts.

The exhibit will run for a week, from May 30 to June 3, 2011, at the Supreme Court.  Thereafter, it will be moved to schools, malls, and Halls of Justice nationwide. Information, education, and communication materials on the various projects of the Court will be distributed to the public throughout the entire run of the exhibit.
