SC is VACC Outstanding Gov’t Agency in Anti-Corruption Drive

August 20, 2014

The Supreme Court is the Outstanding Government Agency in Anti-Corruption campaign for 2013-2014.

The award, conferred by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) led by its founding chair and president Dante LA Jimenez, coincided with the VACC’s 16th Founding Anniversary Celebrations held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the Gymnasium of the National Bureau of Investigation, Taft Avenue, Manila. Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez, VACC’s guest of honor and speaker, received the award for the Supreme Court.

VACC is a non-stock, non-profit non-government organization (NGO) campaigning to eradicate criminality and corrupt practices, as well as assists victims of crime and works for the improvement of the criminal justice system.

Earlier, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. A. Sereno has accepted the nomination to be one of the “voices” during the annual Summit on the Global Agenda Council on Transparency and Anti-Corruption of The World Economic Forum (WEF) to be held this November 9-11 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The annual WEF Summit is the world’s largest brainstorming of members of the Network Global Agenda Councils on various issues who engage in interactive workshops and sessions to provide comprehensive insight into the global, industry, and regional agendas.

Chief Justice Sereno has accepted the WEF’s nomination, which came following her keynote speech aptly titled Exacting Public Accountability and the Potential for Economic Growth before the East Asia Summit of WEF held in Manila last May 2014. It was “this speech that prompted (the WEF Partnering Against Corruption Initiative) to nominate (Chief Justice Sereno) to be a voice on the Global Agenda Council,” according to Gretchen Jonker, Associate Director of the Partnering Against Corruption Initiative. ###
