SC, San Pablo City Gov’t Sign Deed of Donation for San Pablo City HoJ

March 4, 2019

Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin graced the signing of the Deed of Donation between the Supreme Court (SC) and the San Pablo City government over the 1.5 hectare lot property in Barangay San Gregorio which will be the future site of the Hall of Justice (HoJ) in San Pablo City, Laguna.

Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez and San Pablo City Mayor Loreto S. Amante signed the deed of donation for the Supreme Court and the city government, respectively.

Chief Justice Bersamin committed to have the funds for its construction included in the 2020 budget of the Judiciary so that construction can start by next year. The Chief Justice said:  “I will do my best that during my incumbency, which will end this October, I shall have already started this very worthy project of building a courthouse worthy of the name and honor of San Pablo City.”

The Chief Justice extolled Retired SC Justice Arturo D. Brion who he said was instrumental in facilitating the local government’s donation of the lot property to the Judiciary. Along with Justice Brion, witnessing the signing ceremonies were Supreme Court Justices Alexander G. Gesmundo and Ramon Paul L. Hernando. Justices Brion and Gesmundo are natives of San Pablo, while Justice Hernando once served as Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge of San Pablo City. Also present were the San Pablo City RTC Judges led by Judge Agripino G. Morga and the San Pablo City Bar Association led by its President Atty. Candido G. Javaluyas, Jr.

The 1.5 hectare lot property in Laguna is the second lot property secured by the Judiciary during the term of Chief Justice Bersamin. Last January, Chief Justice Bersamin himself flew to Cebu City to witness the signing of the Deed of Donation between Cebu City Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña and Court Administrator Marquez for Cebu City’s donation to the Court of a 1.5 hectare property in South Road Property, Cebu City, for the construction of the Cebu Judiciary Complex.

The San Pablo City Hall of Justice will house, among others, the courts, mediation center, server rooms, data center, detainees’ holding rooms, lawyers’ lounge, and seminar rooms. At present, San Pablo City has six (6) regional trial courts and another six (6) first level courts. The new hall of justice will also have provisions for newly-created courts.
