In a historic first for a chief magistrate, Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta leads the flag raising ceremony at the Rizal Monument in Rizal Park, Manila City attended by Supreme Court officials and employees. With the Chief Justice is his wife, Court of Appeals Senior Associate Justice Fernanda Lampas Peralta and their four children.
The flag-raising ceremony, the first since the government-declared lockdown last year, is organized by the SC’s Program Management Office (PMO) headed by Atty. Laura Del Rosario, in cooperation with the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC).
The holding of the flag ceremony at the Rizal Monument is a fitting prelude to the launch of the Justice Zone in Calamba City in Laguna later in the week. Calamba is the birthplace of our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
The Chief also finds it appropriate that they are holding the flag ceremony at the very site where our national hero displayed his ultimate act of bravery and greatness. National Parks Development Committee Executive Director Ms. Cecile L. Romero thanks the Chief Justice for his own heroic efforts in leading the judiciary in the midst of the pandemic, and in ensuring that the ends of justice are served amid the crisis.
In attendance are Justices Marvic M.V.F. Leonen, Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa, Alexander G. Gesmundo, Rosmari D. Carandang, Rodil V. Zalameda, Mario V. Lopez and Jhosep Y. Lopez. Representing the Department of Local Government is Officer-in-Charge Bernardo C. Florece, Jr. Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta is set to retire on March 27, 2021, a full year ahead of the mandatory retirement age of 70. ###
