Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin yesterday morning delivered the Keynote Speech during the five-day 17thNational Convention of Lawyers organized by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Underscoring the indispensability of lawyers in upholding the Rule of Law, the Chief Justice said: “To uphold the Rule of Law requires no grand speeches or acts of deeming-do on your part. All that is demanded of you is simply to be the honest lawyer in your community. Be the best person and the best lawyer that you can be for the reputation of the legal profession, the stability of our judicial system, and the vigor of our democracy depend on it.”
“It is not only in a ‘period of great change’ that the Rule of Law must be upheld. The Rule of Law must be held at all times,” the Chief Justice told the 3,000 lawyer-attendees to the Convention. (Caption by Annie Rose A. Laborte; Photo by Francisco S. Gutierrez)
