WHAT : REIMAGINING THE ART OF LEGAL EMPOWERMENT
National Summit on Access to Justice through Cultivating Approaches on Legal Aid

The Supreme Court of the Philippines, in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, the Philippine Association of Law Schools, the Free Legal Assistance Group, and Alternative Law Groups, and with the support of the ABA ROLI, EU GoJust II Programme, and The Asia Foundation Programme, will hold “Reimagining the Art of Legal Empowerment: National Summit on Access to Justice through Cultivating Approaches on Legal Aid” on November 27 to 30, 2022 at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
Focusing on the recognition of human dignity of every human person and the guarantee of full protection for human rights (Article II, Sec. 11, 1987 Constitution) and the guarantee that “adequate legal assistance shall not be denied to any person by reason of poverty” (Article III, Sec. 11, 1987 Constitution), the Summit aims to develop a roadmap that will amplify, provide, and sustain avenues of access towards the constitutional guarantee of adequate legal assistance.
The Summit, which will be attended by the Members of the Supreme Court, court officials, legal aid stakeholders, and select members of the Bar, work out a common vision of adequate legal aid and a calibrated and strategic approach premised on cooperation, coordination, and collaboration through various plenary discussions, dialogues, keynote addresses, and breakout sessions.
The keynote addresses, summary of the plenary discussions, and the recommendations identified in the breakout sessions of the event shall be collated, published, and made available to the delegates and other stakeholders following the conclusion of the Summit.
