Chief Justice Gesmundo to PMA Cadets: “Be ready for a lifetime of training and discipline”
April 30, 2022
Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo troops the line during the Recognition Rites of the “Siklab Laya” Class of 2025 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City this morning. With him is PMA Suprintendent Lt. Gen. Ferdinand M. Cartujano, PAF.
Speaking as guest of honor, the Chief Justice reminded the PMA Class of 2025 to prepare and be ready for a lifetime of training and discipline towards the faithful observance of a life in integrity.
“Since soon you will become commissioned officers of our Armed Forces, let me remind you of Article II, Section 3 of our Constitution, with the intention of instilling in you this provision: ‘Civilian authority is, at all times, supreme over the military,’” said the Chief Justice. “Remember that this provision makes explicit the principle of civilian supremacy. Civilian supremacy…is not a guaranteed supremacy of civilian officers who are in power, but the supremacy of the sovereign people.” (Courtesy of the Supreme Court Public Information Office)
