Court Administrator Villanueva started his judicial career in 2002 when he was appointed Presiding Judge of Branch 255 of the Las Piñas City Regional Trial Court (RTC). He was at one point the Acting Presiding Judge of Branch 267, Taguig City RTC and Acting Presiding Judge of Branch 4, Manila RTC. He also served as Executive Judge of the Las Piñas City RTC.
On March 2, 2010, he was promoted as Deputy Court Administrator (DCA), a position he held until his recent appointment as Court Administrator.
Prior to joining the Judiciary, Court Administrator Villanueva worked for various government institutions and served all three branches of the government: the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judicial departments.
Court Administrator Villanueva graduated grade school valedictorian from the Narvacan South Central School in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur in 1976, and with honors in high school from Lourdes School, Quezon City in 1981. He obtained his AB Economics degree in 1985 and his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1990, both from the University of the Philippines.
On November 17, 2021, then DCA Villanueva was designated as Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Court Administrator following the appointment of the former Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez as Associate Justice of the SC. (Courtesy of the SC Public Information Office)
