SC Gives Hope to Children through Basketball Clinic
December 21, 2022

Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo underscored the importance of sports in giving hope to children especially this Christmas season.
“There is hope in basketball. Give them hope. Give them the right direction and guidance. You can never tell, perhaps there would be one or two among these children who could make it to the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) or even the NBA (National Basketball Association) in America,” said Chief Justice Gesmundo as he stressed that the goal of the outreach program was to lead these children to the right path early in life.
The Chief Justice made this remark when he graced the Judiciary Magis Cares Basketball Clinic in Barangay 705, Zone 77 Court in Malate, Manila on December 19, 2022.
The Judiciary Magis Cares Basketball Clinic is an outreach program initiated by Associate Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez for children aged 4 to 15 years.
The children participated in drills and games conducted by the Judiciary Magis under the tutelage of two former PBA players: Warren Ybañez of Barako Bull Energy and Chester Tolomia of Ginebra Kings.
Justice Marquez, who himself plays for the Judiciary Magis, said: “We hope we were able to bring smiles to the children and their families, and that with the basketballs we distributed, we also hope that some of the children will be inspired to pursue the sport and someday become prominent basketball players.”.
At their “graduation” from the clinic, the children were each given a basketball with a sling bag full of treats by Chief Justice Gesmundo, assisted by Justice Marquez and the Judiciary Magis players.
The rest of the Judiciary Magis are Joey Yabut, Julius Rabino, Richard Litonjua, Regie Malinao, Ryan Dela Cruz, Jearome Serrano, Vince Puno, Edu Mustre, Derick Salamat, Charles Roma, John Bergonio, Erick Dionisio, and assistant coach Tek Regidor.
