November 26, 2022
Supreme Court Associate Justice Rodil V. Zalameda receives from fellow Atenean, retired Philippine Judicial Academy Chancellor and retired Supreme Court Justice Adolfo S. Azcuna the Distinguished Alumni Award in the Judiciary Category during the Grand Alumni Homecoming of the Ateneo Law School held at the Centennial Hall, Manila Hotel on Friday, November 25, 2022.
Justice Zalameda, who belongs to Batch 1987, was unanimously chosen by the Ateneo Law Alumni Association, Inc. (ALAAI) as among the recipients of the award given “to alumni who have brought honor and distinction to the Ateneo Law School through their laudable achievements and who have inspired others to value and respect the law as an instrument of truth, peace, order, and justice.” Justice Azcuna is the ALAAI’s Chairperson of the Board of Judges.
Justice Zalameda shares the award in the same category with Court of Appeals Associate Justice Manuel Barrios (Batch 1975). This year’s ALAAI’s other Distinguished Alumni Awardees are: Dean Melencio Sta. Maria (Batch 1982), in the Academe Category; and Attys. Tranquil Gervacio Salvador III (Batch 1991), German Lichauco II (Batch 1992), and Rester John Lao Nonato (Batch 2006), in the Law Practice Category. A Special Posthumous Award was given to the late Atty. Nordy Diploma. In his message, Justice Zalameda expressed his gratitude to the ALAAI for the recognition and said that he was “humbled to be recognized alongside such esteemed company.” He added: “While seven of us are accepting these awards tonight, let me state that the work of dispensing justice is never a single person’s endeavor or merely the job of a few. It is the concerted effort of the many men and women who ensure that the wheels of justice are turning and running properly. Every member of the legal profession contributes to this vital undertaking. And we share this recognition with all the Ateneans defending the rule of law and safeguarding the bulwark of democracy. They are the true every day heroes of the justice system and we honor them tonight for their service and dedication.”(Courtesy of the Supreme Court Public Information Office)
