Guam Chief Justice Robert J. Torres, Jr. is the first recipient of the Philippine Judges Association (PJA) President’s Award.
The PJA President’s Award is given in recognition of distinguished individuals who have made exceptional contributions in advancing the knowledge of judges on legal developments and jurisprudential trends, here and abroad. It is given to individuals who have been instrumental in promoting the best interest of the Philippine judges. The award underscored the unity and shared commitment among judges to uphold and strengthen the rule of law in the country.
Chief Justice Torres, Jr. has been instrumental in advancing the accessibility and efficiency of court services across Guam, introducing innovative features like wireless technology and videoconferencing in courtrooms, and championing the implementation of e-filing and expanded online services. He has been an invaluable resource in assisting with the Philippine Supreme Court’s initiatives to institute judicial reforms using technology.
