JSCC Holds Dialogue with Stakeholders for the Establishment of ‘Green Justice Zone’ in Palawan

The Justice Sector Coordinating Council (JSCC) met with various stakeholders on October 11, 2023 in preparation for the delivery of real-time environmental justice via the Puerto Princesa Justice Zone, the world’s first Green Justice Zone in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
The Green Justice Zone is another project of the JSCC composed of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). The project aims to showcase the national-local government collaboration for efficient and effective delivery of justice in environmental protection and natural resource management.
Supreme Court Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh, Chairperson of the JSCC Technical Working Group on Processes and Capacity Building, welcomed, through videoconferencing, more than 100 key justice sector actors including judges, prosecutors, lawyers in the public and private sectors, law enforcement officers, and non-government organizations as the JSCC resumed knowledge-sharing and collaborative sessions at the Best Western Plus Ivy Wall Hotel in Puerto Princesa City.
DILG Undersecretary Lord A. Villanueva, DOJ Assistant Secretary Randolph A. Pascacio, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary Juan Miguel Cuna delivered their recorded messages and pledges of support as well.
Sandiganbayan Justice Michael Frederick L. Musngi, Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Jaime Fortunato A. Caringal, and CA Justice Wilhemina B. Jorge-Wagan as JSCC Technical Working Group representatives likewise attended the dialogues with multi-sectoral offices and agencies. The sessions are scheduled until Friday, October 13, 2023.
The formal launch of Puerto Princesa as the 12th Justice Zone and as a premiere showcase for delivery of justice with emphasis on sustainable development is set on November 10, 2023.
Established on April 30, 2010, the JSCC serves as a forum for dialogue on issues of common interest and mechanism for effective coordination and sharing of information in support of planning and implementation of joint initiatives among justice sector institutions.
