Supreme Court Associate Justice Japar B. Dimaampao shared his legal knowledge and expertise as one of the panel speakers at the inaugural Asian International Arbitration Centre Islamic Arbitration Conference held on June 20, 2023 at the Bangunan Sulaiman in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Leading the discourse during the Conference’s third session titled “Finding the Common Ground — Can Islamic Arbitration Survive in Civil and Common Law Jurisdictions?,” Justice Dimaampao stressed that Islamic arbitration system is legally feasible in the Philippine jurisdiction in view of the recent developments in domestic Shari’ah coupled with the hybrid nature of the country’s legal system.

Likewise, he talked about Republic Act No. 11054, or the Organic Law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, which echoes the policy of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act of 2004 for the State to promote alternative dispute resolution as a means to achieve speedy and impartial justice, and to declog court dockets.
Also in the panel of the hybrid conference were Mr. Jalalullail Othman of Shook Lin & Bok and Ms. Fara Mohammad of Keystone Law. The panel discussion was moderated by Ms. Nudrat B. Majeed of Four Gold Road Chambers.
