Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez
Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez joined the Supreme Court as its 192nd Associate Justice on November 16, 2021.
Prior to being appointed as Supreme Court Justice, Justice Marquez served as Court Administrator for almost 12 years.
A “homegrown Justice” of the Court, Justice Marquez began his career in the High Court in 1991 as an apprentice, and then later as a law clerk, in the Office of Associate Justice Abraham F. Sarmiento. He then rose from the ranks by occupying various positions in the Offices of Senior Associate Justices Ameurfina A. Melencio-Herrera and Josue N. Bellosillo until he became Court Attorney VI in 1995. In 1999, Justice Marquez was appointed as Deputy Secretary of the Senate Electoral Tribunal, detailed at the Office of the Chairperson. He then served as Chief of Staff of then Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno from 2006 to 2010. During this time, he also concurrently held the posts of Assistant Court Administrator, Chief of the Public Information Office, and Spokesperson of the Court. In January 2010, he was appointed Court Administrator.
Justice Marquez obtained from the Ateneo de Manila University both his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1987 and his Juris Doctor degree in 1993. He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1994.
