Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh shared her insights on the Legal Feminism in Philippine Gender Jurisprudence on November 29, 2023 at the Multi-Purpose Gymnasium of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology. This event was attended by Associate Justices of the Court of Appeals, Executive and Presiding Judges of the trial courts of the 12th Judicial Region, professors, and students.
This event is part of the series of lectures on the results of the Legal Feminism in Philippine Gender Jurisprudence Study, funded by the European Union’s Governance in Justice (GOJUST) II Programme. This study delves into the judiciary’s interpretation of gender-responsive laws, evaluating its ability to identify gender-informed remedies. It is also intended to raise awareness and broaden the understanding of how these insights can contribute to equitable and inclusive adjudications. Finally, it takes a deep dive into the presence of gender biases, inequalities, and discrimination which exist in Supreme Court decisions, with the purpose of exploring corrective measures to address these biases.
