SC Awards Historical Marker to San Beda College Alabang for Serving as the 2023 Bar Exams National Headquarters

Acting Chief Justice Ramon Paul L. Hernando led the Supreme Court in unveiling the historical marker awarded to the San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) in Muntinlupa City on March 12, 2024. The SBCA served as the National Headquarters and one of the local testing centers during the 2023 Bar Examinations.
Acting Chief Justice Hernando expressed his gratitude to the SBCA, led by its Rector-President Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa, OSB and College of Law Dean Ulpiano P. Sarmiento III, stressing that he, as 2023 Bar Chairperson, and the rest of the Bar Team Hernando could not have selected a better national headquarters for last year’s Bar exams.
“SBCA quickly became both the second home of Bar Team Hernando and the heart of the smashing success that is the 2023 Bar Examinations,” said the Acting Chief Justice, who is a law graduate of San Beda University and the holder of the first ever Doctor of Laws, honoris causa degree of the SBCA.
The SBCA was further extolled by Acting Chief Justice Hernando, describing the college as living up and holding true to its moniker as the “happiest law school in the universe.” Citing a ten-year study by the Legal Education Board, Acting Chief Justice Hernando noted that SBCA School of Law School has ranked fifth among the legal education institutions with the most successful bar takers from the years 2011 to 2022, accounting for 4.22% of the total batch of lawyers produced in that period.
Established in 2005, the SBCA School of Law produced its first batch of graduates in 2009 and produced topnotchers in the 2011 and 2019 Bar Examinations.
Joining Acting Chief Justice Hernando was Associate Justice Mario V. Lopez, Chairperson of the 2024 Bar Examinations.
Also present were Atty. Ma. Teresa Antonia F. Fabregas, Judicial Staff Head of Acting Chief Justice Hernando and one of the four examiners in Labor and Social Legislation, and the rest of the Bar Team Hernando led by 2023 Bar Head and Executive Director, Atty. Ma. Theresa Carmina E. Vivar-Lising.
The obelisk marker was unveiled at St. Maur’s Hall. The marker reads, in part:
San Beda College Alabang served as the National Headquarters of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and one of the Local Testing Centers during the 2023 Bar Examinations, functioning as a vital cog in the digitalized and regionalized Philippine Bar examinations and an emblem of warm, genuine generosity in heeding the call for public service.
The Supreme Court of the Philippines forever holds the support, cooperation, and benevolence of the San Beda College Alabang in the highest regard.
The 2023 Bar Examinations were held on September 17, 20, and 24, 2023 in 14 local testing centers spread out across the National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The said Examinations were the 121st professional licensure test conducted for Philippine lawyers.

Unveiled at St. Maur’s Hall of San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) in Muntinlupa City on March 12, 2024, this obelisk marker, according to Acting Chief Justice Ramon Paul L. Hernando, “shall celebrate all the memories shared by the beautiful partnership commenced between the Supreme Court and SBCA” and “shall immortalize SBCA’s laudable achievement and invaluable contribution to the success of the 2023 Bar Examinations.” SBCA served as the National Headquarters of the Supreme Court of the Philippines and one of the Local Testing Centers during the 2023 Bar Examinations.
