SC Commits to Spread Peace in Mindanao
September 09, 2022
The Supreme Court today committed to actively campaign for the spread and attainment of peace in Mindanao during an unprecedented visit by the Members of Court En Banc in Mindanao.
The commitment was made by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo and the Associate Justices of the Supreme Court who were in Marawi City to award the historical markers to two Mindanao State University (MSU) campuses—MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology and MSU-General Santos, two of the 29 testing sites nationwide of the 2020/21 Bar Examinations, the first digitalized and regionalized Bar Exams in the country.
The Chief Justice assured those present that the Judiciary has begun to actively help the Bangsamoro people achieve their dream of peace, adding that today’s occasion marked the very first time that almost half of the Members of the Supreme Court visited Marawi City.
With the Chief Justice were Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen, Justice Mario V. Lopez, Justice Samuel H. Gaerlan, Justice Japar B. Dimaampao, Justice Jhosep Y. Lopez, and Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez.
Justice Dimaampao, who hails from Marawi City, underscored the importance of attaining understanding, unity, harmony, and peace in the Bangsamoro region. He said that with the Supreme Court now giving importance to the Shari’ah legal system, this might truly be achieved.
Justice Dimaampao announced that the Supreme Court has included in its Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations 2022-2027 projects and reforms in the country’s Shari’ah Legal System. The SPJI is the institutional blueprint of the Supreme Court En Banc’s plans and programs for the “delivery of responsive and real-time justice.”
In particular, Justice Dimaampao said that the first ever National Shari’ah Summit will be held in Cagayan De Oro City in February next year.
“Indeed, we are lucky to have a Chief Justice in the person of Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo whose heart is close to the Bangsamoro People,” concluded Justice Dimaampao. (Courtesy of the SC Public Information Office)
